Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a tool that is changing the way construction projects are planned, designed and executed. The tool is used by architects, general and sub-contractors, and consultants to manage building life-cycle information.
BIM is similar to traditional computer-aided-design (CAD, but the models used to construct a three-dimensional assembly and store product information. It is a way to generate and manipulate an entire building in a three-dimensional environment.
BIM is also a way to visualize the position of one trade, such as eletrical or plumbing, relative to another trade to ensure that there is no equipment interference.
